2012 HOUSING/ THE VILLA R LINKS BACK TO THE FIRST VILLA IN HISTORIE - LA ROTUNDA:

This was the first country house without any agriculturale meaning. The production of food in the country side had the purpose of serving the households in the city. The farmes were looked at as mainly production sites – without any purpose of pleasure, entertainment or retirement. Palladio breaks with this functional tradition and creates La Rotunda as the manifestation of the latter. Pleasure and entertainment makes its entre to the countryside. The quadratic plan of La Rotunda and the four similar facades creates a uniform building – a fixed point on the planet. In villa R four fronts becomes eight, spoken through compression and tension.
